We tend to determine something as possible based on what makes sense to us, to our perception or understanding. That’s natural. Its human nature to embrace those things we imagine might happen from our frame of reference rather than God’s. Let’s be honest, when it comes to the life of the Spirit, there’s isn’t much that makes sense to our natural minds. It only makes sense through the eyes of faith.

But God can do do things based on His LOVE that seem impossible to us. His love for us, in what He can do, is unlimited.

The following love story by Ruth Fisher which was reported widely in local newspapers, illustrates how God has a way of making anything possible.

“I was riding the New York subway late one night. I felt a little uncomfortable being one of the few passengers in the car.

“One stop later, a gentleman got on the train, and I felt relieved that there would be another presence in the subway car.

“I peered into his face anxiously, and was reassured to see a mild-mannered man, with a pleasant countenance and an amiable manner.

“At the next stop, a little, old lady boarded the train. Then she, too, began to wend her way in the general direction of where the man and I were sitting.

” She peered over the man’s shoulder to see what he was reading. And then she began to address him in a language in which I was not fluent, but which I could certainly follow.

“I didn’t know Yiddish, but I did have an excellent command of German, which is quite similar. So I was able to follow the dialogue with very little difficulty.

‘Where are you from…originally.’ she inquired.

“The man named a country in Eastern Europe.

“‘What city?’ she asked.

“He answered again, noncommittally, but beginning to look upset by the persistent nagging which may have reminded him of his long lost wife.

“‘What did you do…before the war?’

” He named his profession.

“‘Look at me. Look at me, Karl!’ she exclaimed. ‘Don’t you recognize me anymore?’

“They were husband and wife.

“Each had made his and her way alone to New York City to begin a new life, and they had found each other, years later, on a subway car on the BMT line.

“As this reunion unfolded before my disbelieving, tear-filled eyes, I marveled at the mysterious force that had compelled the woman to take her seat immediately adjoining the man’s.

“I felt I was placed there that blessed evening to serve as a witness to God’s loving providence. I was imbued with a sense of mystery that has never left me since upon seeing such an incredible miracle unfold before my very eyes.

“It was this encounter that helped me to understood that ‘what seems impossible to you is never impossible to God’ (Matthew 19:26).”
