The gospel of Mark, chapter 10:29-30
Whoever wishes to follow the Lord must be prepared to forego self-centeredness, which can involve attachments to home, property and family. Does this mean that Jesus wants us to turn our backs on our families; on our parents, our brothers and our children? No, indeed. The gospel of Jesus fulfills and completes family relationships. It does not destroy them. A good family is a family that values the love of Christ; the kind of love that binds a family together, the kind of love that is strong enough to reject self-centeredness which can rip it apart.
That is why the Lord teaches that those who commit to follow him by foregoing even family attachments will receive a hundred times as much.
