Gospel of Luke, chapter 6:38

God has great riches to share with us and we have great riches to share with each other. The reason Jesus fed the multitude (Matthew 14/13-21) was to give us an example-an example of sharing that doesn’t just come naturally. We have a tendency to hoard our treasure, not spread it around. That is the way of the world. Take time today to look at the treasure you have on deposit and ask yourself what kind of interest are you making on it? Draw on your stockpile of riches and spread them around. That’s what God does, that’s what Jesus did, and that’s what every good Christian does. Don’t be afraid to pile up this kind of treasure. You won’t be the poorer for it. That’s a promise from Jesus himself.

You don’t have to have much to share in the way of possessions. That is not the point I’m making. You have a lot to give, if only you let the Lord guide you. Your life is more precious than gold, and the Lord wants to enter into your life so that you can give glory to your Father in heaven by your good deeds. So, let the Lord feed you with His word that you may feed others with His blessings.

As faithful Christians and followers of Jesus, our job is to recognize how incredibly rich we really are and to dip into these riches and to share them with others. What a blessed mission we have!

God’s bountifulness is very evident in the Eucharist, the bread of life. There, the grand story of our salvation and divine love is renewed. There, more than anywhere else, is reason for thanksgiving and gratitude.
